Chikungunya

Chikungunya virus (ChikV) is a single-stranded RNA alphavirus and a member of the Togaviridae family of viruses. Humans are the primary reservoir for ChikV and Aedes species mosquitos are the primary vectors for transmission. The majority of individuals who are exposed to ChikV become symptomatic, with the most severe manifestations observed at the extremes of age and in those with suppressed immunity. Once exposed to ChikV virus, individuals develop lasting immunity and protection from reinfection. The Instachekā„¢ Chikungunya Rapid Test is a lateral flow chromatographic immunoassay for the qualitative detection of chikungunya virus (CHIK) in human serum, plasma or whole blood. It is intended to be used as a screening test and as an aid in the diagnosis of infection with CHIK.
